I have been making this flapjack recipe since I was tiny. It is super simple and super easy for everyone to make. There are so many more complex recipes for flapjack out there, but honestly they just aren't worth it. There are just 3 ingredients, and its all in one pot! We were always too impatient and got it out the oven when it was still really gooey and ate it by the spoon.
Ingredients:
- 250g Unsalted Butter
(margarine works too - but butter tastes better)
- 700g Golden Syrup
- 600g Oats
(you can also add dried fruit, choc chips, glace cherries or anything you fancy)
You will also need
- Greaseproof Paper
- A Wooden Spoon
- Scales
- 26x20cm tin
(other sizes will work - but cooking time will vary)
Start by preheating your oven to 180c fan
Weigh out your butter/marg (its just the whole block if you have butter) and pop this into a large saucepan. Add your golden syrup straight into the pan if you can to avoid extra washing up. Most supermarket bottles of golden syrup are 700g so it's easy to just squeeze the whole bottle in - stick it in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it come out easier. On a low heat, melt these together on the hob until the butter has completely melted. Once the butter has melted, turn the hob off and take the pan off the heat. Now add in your oats and stir everything together until the oats are well coated.
Grab your tin and greaseproof paper, and cut the greaseproof paper to match the tin. Grease your tin with butter or marg (I find the best spread to grease tins with to be Flora Buttery - but any will do!)
Put the greaseproof paper into the tin and add in your flapjack mixture. Cook for around 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and crisp.
For a clean cut, wait until its cooled to cut it... if you can resist.
Enjoy and remember to tag me in your bakes!
